The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Yemi Osinbajo, has denied claims by President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign that, if his party wins the coming presidential election, he would resign and hand over to a national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu, after six months in office.

The spokesperson for Mr. Jonathan’s campaign, Femi Fani-Kayode, made the allegations at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

“Senator Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Professor Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their party wins.

“The wicked plot, as laid out by them, is to force Professor Osinbajo to resign for Senator Tinubu to be nominated by General Buhari as his replacement,” Mr. Fani Kayode said.

On Saturday, Mr. Osinbajo laughed off the suggestions, telling youths who gathered at an event in Ikeja, Lagos that he, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria could not sign such a pact.

He asked what could ever motivate him to do such a thing.

“I don’t know where people get their story from,” Mr. Osibajo, a professor said. “Let me tell you, there is no way in the world I would do such a thing.

“This (serving Nigeria) has been a passion that I carried for all my adulthood. Let my distractors find more meaningful things to tell Nigerians.”

At the event, Mr. Osinbajo today spoke about the plans his party has for Nigerian youth if elected.
He noted that corruption is the problem of the country and that an APC government would tackle it headlong.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described Mr. Fani-Kayode’s claim as “sickening and outlandish”, saying it was designed to divert attention from the runaway success of the APC presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, at the Chatham House event in London Thursday.

In a statement issued in London on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said the PDP and the Jonathan Administration still do not have any answer to what has now become an epochal moment that has separated the wheat from the chaff.

”They have thrown everything imaginable at Gen. Buhari, but he has continued to wax stronger and stronger: They said he was not qualified, that he was too old, then they fabricated a medical report of an illness of their own choice, sponsored death wish adverts against him and instituted a myriad of court cases to stop him.

”After they failed to stop him, they went after the election itself, using the PVCs as a tool to launch a campaign for postponement and, when they realized that would not work, came up with the bogey of insecurity in the North-east to force a postponement of the election, hoping they can buy enough time to revive their electoral misfortune.

”With everything working against them, they engaged in a show of shame at The Chatham House that backfired badly, on the heels of their bare-faced lies that Gen. Buhari was hospitalized in London. The preposterous claim of a secret oath – reminiscent of what they do in their own party – by the apparently ailing spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, is their latest desperate act,” the party said.
